Situation

Out of the Box Manufacturing is a family business which successfully competes with much larger organizations. One of the barriers to sales is that they did not hold a third party certification such as ISO 9001 or AS9100. in 2014 Out of the Box Manufacturing brought in Impact Washington to help them achieve these certifications.

Solution

Impact Washington first worked with Out of the Box Manufacturing to implement a Management system such that they could achieve ISO 9001 and AS9100 certification. In doing this, a number of challenges needed to be solved. First, most companies say this, but in the case of Out of the Box Manufacturing, it is true. They have a very small number of managers for the sales volume they produce. This meant that the system implemented really needed to follow Lean Manufacturing Principles as much as possible. Even though the standards required the organization to add some processes, Impact Washington was able to help Out of the Box Manufacturing build a paperless system from the ground up that was right-sized for them. This helped Out of the Box eliminate more waste from their ISO 9001/AS9100 implementation than most other companies that choose to run a system that is not tailored to their needs.
