4-Session Series Offers Small Manufacturers, Entrepreneurs, and Start-Ups Fresh Ideas, New Tools and Approaches to Improve Operations Functions
Small business owners and management executives within organizations who are interested in learning how to close the gap between them and their team members on basic operation concepts, fundamental quality management systems, and lean manufacturing concepts will have the opportunity to gain new information and insight from Impact Washington’s upcoming Workshop Series designed specifically for them.
Workshops begin January 2020 and are led by Impact Washington Small-Rural Manufacturing Account Executive Miguel A. Moreno Hierro with locations in various regions throughout the state.
The series consists of 3 two- and half-hour interactive workshops and one full-day workshop designed for continuing education and competency on business operations. The sessions are a combination of lectures and hands-on learning and participates will receive a certification upon completion of each workshop. Attendance at all workshops is advised.
Impact Washington’s Small Manufacturer Workshop Series brings together people from across the region who are in the early stages of launching or planning to grow their business. These workshops offer a dynamic and collaborative learning community and the workshop topics offer participates a rare opportunity to connect with peers and develop new skills in Basic Operations, Quality Management Systems and Lean Manufacturing principals. “This Workshop Series gives the smaller manufactures a great value at a great price,” said Carol Blayden, Director of Marketing & Client Engagement for Impact Washington.Basic Operations:
Workshop 1 – Basic Operations 101: This workshop covers supply chain explanation of the manufacturing process, typical problematic, and standard solutions., financial impact of common bad or wrong practices. Discussion also includes buying process, cost structure, production planning, warehousing, quality assurance, finish goods warehousing and shipping as well as topics such as make to order and make to stock, KPIs and information flow. Core learning is making the connection of production with financials and marketing. Fundamental Information About Quality Management Systems:
Workshop 2 – Quality Management Systems Fundamentals: This workshop covers the origins of the Quality Management Systems (QMS), the benefits and challenges on the creation, implementation, and sustainment of a QMS. Topics also include the basic structure of QMS (ISO 9001, AS91000D). Core learning is the connection of the QMS with the business as a whole as well as marketing opportunities.
Workshop 3 – Introduction to Lean: This workshop covers the origin of Lean Manufacturing, including principles and eight wastes. Tools and techniques are mentioned and briefly discussed Including; Value Stream Mapping, Visual Administration, 5S, Quick Changeover, Poka Yoke. Core learning is understanding the financial impact of using / not using lean manufacturing in the organization.
Workshop 4-Principles of Lean Manufacturing w/Live Simulation Lean 101: This Workshop is Impact Washington’s standard Lean 101 crouse. This workshop lasts 8 hours, and attendance is limited to 20 individuals.
Costs: The Workshop Series is $120 (with a value of $2,000) – $15.00 for each Workshop 1-3 and $75.00 for Workshop 4. Impact Washington is intentionally keeping the costs low to support the small (19 or less employees) manufacturers and starts-up community of Washington State. Registration is open. Space is limited.
