Industry & Education Unite for Career Exploration and Student Choices!

Tuesday, September 24, 2019 | News Release, Workforce Development

Held annually on the first Friday in October, Manufacturing Day is a nation-wide celebration to introduce students to excellent careers at local companies needing new fresh-minded employees. The first goal is to encourage local companies to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders, showcasing great opportunities and changing perceptions about manufacturing jobs and careers. The second is building ongoing relationships with all stakeholders.

Local Success Story Heritage Bank’s Diana Ortega recognizes the importance of these connections issuing a grant to two leading high schools, Sno-Isle TECH in Mukilteo and Glacier Peak in Snohomish. Beyond touring local manufacturing companies (SEA-LECT Plastics, Qualitel, and Kaas Tailored) these institutions have been granted a complete career exploration program called Edge Factor, empowering communities with story-driven tools to tackle workforce development, inspire students, reach parents and bridge relationships.

Before the big arrives on October 4th, the unity has already begun. Qualitel & Kaas Tailored have connected with Sno-Isle TECH, not only for MFGDay, but are discussing summer intern opportunities. SEA-LECT Plastics has been a longtime supporter of Sno-Isle TECH hiring youth apprentices and beyond. Sno-Isle TECH educators are using the Edge Factor videos in their classrooms to help students explore career options.”

Major Partners Include:

AJAC (Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee) already an Edge Factor partner, will be onsite at SEA-LECT Plastics to increase awareness of registered apprenticeship programs, a pathway to career credentials.

Impact Washington will show support by attending tours as special guests at selected tours, as well as sponsor student tours.

Workforce Snohomish County will show support by attending tours as special guests at selected tours.
