Paul and Paradisos del Sol.

Winemaking in Washington is a booming industry and it is the passion of our winemakers. Combining that passion, a prime location with a temperate climate, and years of knowledge, small wineries are manufacturing amazing products. Here is a just a taste of what was beyond my cubicle this week as I traveled the wine country of Eastern Washington.

Passion for wine. For good wine.  That defines Paradisos del Sol in Zillah, WA. In their cozy tasting room, Paul Vandenberg and Barbara Sherman will teach you their signature “sip-sip-bite-sip” and will share amazing organic wines. 

Barbara, with her great sense of humor, shares stories about the vineyard and the winemaking. She will show you the barn owl and her hatchlings and WILL NOT let you go without helping you to choose the right wine for your special meal and dinner. Seriously.  You can’t go.  At least I couldn’t.  See if your will is stronger than mine.

If you are fortunate enough to go out to the vineyard with Paul, you will be able to learn a lot about wine, vineyards, and grapes.  His more than 30 years as a winegrower has made him an encyclopedia of knowledge of this industry. Get him talking about wine and you will see the true passion of a Washington winegrower.  Paul makes sure to be around on Saturday afternoons in the tasting room to answer questions, but if you want to guarantee a tour of the vineyards ($20 per person, including wine tasting at the end) you can book one here).
