Any Day Can Be Manufacturing Day

Wednesday, July 27, 2016 | Workforce Development, Manufacturing Day

What is Manufacturing Day?

Manufacturing Day℠ is a grassroots movement of manufacturers dedicated to overcoming the shared challenges facing manufacturers today.  One of the biggest of these challenges is a gap in skilled labor. 80% of manufacturers cannot find the skilled workers that they need. This is partly due to the public perception that manufacturing careers are undesirable and a lack of preparatory education.

Manufacturing Day is an opportunity for manufacturers (and community and technical colleges) to open their doors and host the public in various events.  From open houses to career workshops, this is the opportunity for manufacturers to change how the community sees their industry as a viable career option.  Some facts about manufacturing careers that people might not be aware of include:

  • Manufacturing is technologically advanced with automation, 3-D printing, robots, and screen technology.
  • The annual average salary of manufacturing workers is more than $77,000.
  • Manufacturers have the highest job tenure in the private sector.
  • 90% of manufacturing workers have medical benefits.

Any Day Can Be Manufacturing Day

Although Manufacturing Day officially occurs on the first Friday in October—this year is Oct 7, 2016—any day can be a Manufacturing Day. We encourage you to participate in Manufacturing Day by planning an event and leveraging the available resources to promote the benefits of Manufacturing in our community. Companies and community organizations should plan their events on the best date for them and their community. All events should be registered on the website, no matter the scheduled date. Only registered event hosts have access to all the free event planning and execution resources created by the national co-producers.
